WFH
That’s “Working From Home” for the acronymically challenged, by the way.
I’m alternating between working furiously away and lying flat out on the bed (listening to News24) with an ice pack on my sacroidal joints. Yep, the back’s playing up again.
This has given me the chance to get some work done without the interruptions of phones or beloved colleagues while fixing my decrepit body.
It’s also given me the chance to try out a few things.
Thanks to Croila I’ve been taking a first look at netvibes. Interesting and worth investigating in more detail, I think.
Multi-monitors are good. Also known as extended desktop, I plugged Di’s old monitor into Lappy on a whim. That didn’t work, so I plugged it into the video out port instead. Much better. I can’t believe how brilliant it is to be able to have two full screen applications working at once, especially if you’re putting together, for example, a Word document listing problems in an Excel workbook. Brilliant. The news is going on about there being new penalties for using a mobile phone while driving. Correct me if I’m wrong, but if the police haven’t been enforcing the law up until now, why should changing the penalty make them any more likely to enforce it?
Care hearing due for obese child. News 24’s going to town on this story too - an eight year old boy weighing, um, a couple of stone less than me. What struck me was the quote attributed to his mother saying that social services should have stepped in before now. Talk about absolving yourself of any responsibility! I’ll bet she’s one of those people who also complains about the government interfering in peoples’ lives too.
Meanwhile the serious news is that 1.7m ‘will have dementia by 2051′. Based on the fun and games we’ve had finding somewhere that can look after dad, we’d better pull our fingers out and start building suitable places pretty damned quickly.

Oooooh, I’m flattered! (Yes, I did look at the photograph…)
Lionel: I’d just like to point out to Tall Andy that the photo was added to the post yesterday evening, after WFH hours.
