Adjusting my horizontal hold

March 20th, 2007 Posted in Mundane musings

No, that’s not a euphemism.

At my latest reconstruction session with Dr K____i yesterday I raised the subject of seating arrangements as I’d noticed that my back’s fine when reclined, and is also not too bad once I’ve been upright for a few minutes (but those few minutes are sheer hell).

Is it my chair?“, I asked.

“No, it’s because you’re sitting. The chair itself doesn’t make much of a difference in your case. It’s your pelvis and the strain it’s failing to cope with when you move from sitting to standing.”

So I need to avoid sitting?

“For a while, yes, that would help.”

I’ve taken today as a horizontal/vertical day, then, planning to spend my time either reclining imperially or walking about. In spite of the intermittent annoyances of weather I’ve walked as far as Aaalburgh town centre to visit the bank, to the local shop to post a letter and replenish my stamp collection … and have lain on my bed, wondering whether this was such a good idea.

Yes, the back feels great and I’m sure today’s made a world of difference, but just think for a minute what not sitting down rules out. Even posting this from a horizontal position is awkward at best.

Bah, I’m bored. And it’s hailing again.

Bah.
