The Grand Tour - an annotated map
I’ve put together a map for some of my photos from my Grand Tour which may be of interest. It will, at least, show you where I spent some of my time.

Click on the map for the full, interactive extraveganza.
Alternatively, click on the “Continue Reading ยป” link below for my favourite photos from the trip - but be warned, there are a lot of them.
What ho!
Bandits at ten o’clock, Archers at two thirty, etc.
Talk like a pilot tomorrow, then, chaps.
Over and out.
Ooh, it was soooo close
So there was less than four miles in it.
Lyle’s prediction was 54.3 miles out but Tall Andy’s just 50.7 miles, so it’s TA who gets Percy the Prediction Puffin.
Hard luck, Lyle. If it’s any consolation, a member of your household has had two of my fish while I’ve been away. Grrrr.
[Edit] That sounds a little harsh. A member of Lyle’s household is the prime suspect behind the untimely passing of two of my goldfish while I’ve been away. Grrrr. [/Edit]
Grand Tour I
Just a few photos for now. I don’t have an FTP program installed on this lappy so have to upload them one by one … and I cannae be arsed (Jings! I’m turning Scottish!)
First of all, here’s proof that I’m halfway through my quest - photos from Ness Point, Lowestoft and from The Lizard:
Most of my photos were taken today, though, when the weather finally improved. Here’s a selection of my favourites so far:
I’m not doing very well at following the plan. By now, I was expecting to be overnighting in Torchwood Town. Instead, I got as far as Hayle on Thursday and up beyond Manchester last night - Cornwall was just too wet but I’ll definitely return in finer weather. I don’t know what the final mileage will be but I must admit I’m expecting it to be closer to Lyle’s prediction than to ‘im oop nawth’s. Still, we’ll just have to wait and see.
One of the reasons for this - and for the sudden rush for Scotland - is a notion to follow Croila’s suggestion and see if I can catch a ferry across to the Orkneys while I’m in the area. It’ll all depend on the timetable (and the cost). Ok, just the timetable, if I’m honest. Based on the latest forecast, I think I’ve made the right decision. Tomorrow and Monday promise to be, well, promising so I’m hopeful of getting a bucketload of photos - I’ll be stopping far more frequently once I’ve passed Glasgow.
So what’ve you all been up to in my absence?
Yeah, yeah, I know
In my defence:
- No Doctor Who
- Eurobloodyvision
- Only terrestial TV available
I’ll give you a proper update later (with sneak photo previews, hopefully) once I’ve worked out how LightRoom works.
BRB
Oh, and sorry for some strange Twitter updates - seems it’s been mangling my words somewhat.
Ok then.
I think I’m packed and ready to go. It’s going to be an interesting couple of weeks if only because *gulp* I’ve no intention of looking for internet access while I’m away.
No, really. It’s true. No intention at all.
Yes, I’m taking a laptop, but it’s purely for the photos.
So, I’m packed and ready to go.
I think.
I’ll TwitterTM any updates, so watch that box at the top of the sidebar. Or just come back in a fortnight. Either one’s good.
A broken promise
I know I promised no more FtG stories, but this is too good not to share.
FtG attended a friend’s birthday party over the weekend. The birthday girl had asked m’colleague to attend in what FtG describes as ‘my full Goth setup’. It being a request from the birthday girl, she gladly complied.
It transpired that Birthday Girl was using her party as a chance to introduce her girlfriend to her parents for the first time.
Birthday Girl met FtG outside and walked her in. The parents’ faces were, apparently, a picture - as was FtG’s when she was introduced only as “No, this isn’t H_____.” The parents looked so relieved.
She regaled us with this tale today, laughing at the parents’ initial reaction and recovery.
“That’s brilliant.” I commented.
“In what way?”
“Well, after the initial shock of a six foot Goth, they’d have warmed to H_____ even if she’d walked in smeared in the blood of innocents.”
There was a short pause as FtG realised she’d been a mere pawn in a very cunning plan.
“You’re right. That is brilliant.”
Hats off to FtG’s friend.
