I had cause to visit the NICE people today.
I should say “revisit”, in fact. A few weeks ago I upgraded the stereo in the WTB (to offer better integration with t’iPod). All well and good … except when they installed it, they didn’t set the date correctly. The time was spot on, but the date was just over 6 months out.
It’s petty, I know, but it was beginning to bug me - mostly because although I could find the “Adjust Clock” option in the menu, the bloody thing wouldn’t let me access that menu option. I tried every combination but to no avail.
I explained this to Chappie when he arrived at NICE this morning. I detected a hint of “This guy’s clearly an idiot” about him as a knowing smile appeared on his face.
“Off you go, then.”
He smirked, leaned forward and selected the options menu … scrolled to General … selected this … scrolled to Adjust Clock …
His smile waned.
“It …”
“I know.”
“It just jumped right past.”
“I know. That’s why I’m here.”
“Good point. Ok. You’re going to have to leave the car here.”
“No problems. You have my number - give me a call when it’s done.”
It took them longer to sort this out than it did to install the bloody thing. It seems the chap they ended up ringing at the manufacturer’s help line didn’t know how to fix it either and they had to seek advice from the real help line.
It’s obvious, really. To be able to adjust the clock (in General settings, remember) you have to go into the Tuner menu, disable the AutoClock option, go back to General and adjust the clock and then enable the AutoClock option again in the Tuner menu.
Of course.
Why didn’t I think of that?
I do like a manufacturer with a sense of humour.
