Losing focus

January 27th, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in Mundane musings

Well, the chat with the trick cyclist was 45 minutes of my life I’ll not get back and effectively consisted of talking about things I’m already well aware of. In the meantime my HappyPillsTM dosage has been doubled.

The benefits have been fairly quick to become evident. I even had a Manic day on Friday – and it’s a while since I had one of those. There has, however, been an unfortunate side-effect in that my lack of sleep has reversed to become far too much sleep. Hopefully this will settle down and I’ll not be late for work at all next week.

My eyesight’s changed, too, but this isn’t connected to the HappyPillsTM. I’ve found that to see things close up I have to remove my spectacules. I know it’s not due, but I think I’d better book an eye test.

Oh, and I’ve changed back to the lion-amongst-sheep theme. Just didn’t care for the newsletter one and hopefully I’ve fixed that horizontal scroll bar problem now.

Loopy or not loopy. That is the question.

Went to see the quack this morning to ask whether my so-called Happy Pills are actually placebos. He assured me they’re not (but then he would say that if they were, wouldn’t he?) and suggested that the existing dose may be too low.

He also asked if I’d go back in this afternoon to meet a shrinky-type person for “a chat”.

I’ll go, but haven’t set expectations too high.

Looking at that photo I have to say that my Facebook friends may have a point after all.

Here we go again

After writing off the last week, I saw the forecast for tomorrow and saw it’s fine.

Knowing what the answer would be, I asked Stubby whether she’d be interested in a rearranged seal hunt.

Yeah, why not?

Eh?! There’s something very odd going on here … but I’m not one to quibble.

See?

I told you the alarm clock hadn’t been invented that could wake me if I closed my eyes …

Eeek!

No, this isn’t it either

Facebook is, of course, evil.

As are people who create applications for it (with the exception of the wonderful Scrabulous).

One of the evil applications is the happy, friendly “Compare People”. You get shown 20 pairs of your “friends” and choose which is funnier, more generous, etc. All innocent enough until I see the collated results of how people see me.

I am, apparently, better at science, smarter and more generous than any of my friends.

That’s nice of people to say so, but those aren’t the categories I was looking at.

  • rather kiss : 50% of voters said Yes! That’s 50% of two voters, of course, but still …
  • better catch : 0%. Out of five. Ouch
  • would make a better father : 0% out of 2. Suits me!
  • rather have dinner with : 100% … out of 1. Someone thinks I know where to eat well.
  • rather sleep with : 0% after 4 votes. Expected, but still hurts
  • more attractive : 0% after 4 votes
  • rather marry : 0% after 2 votes
  • hotter : 3 No votes
  • cuter : 4 votes here. All say No
  • a better body : 0%/4 votes. Now the category had been “a bigger body” …
  • sexier : 0% out of 5. *sighs*
  • rather date : 2 votes. Need I say the result?

Decisions, decisions

So that’s 4am been and gone.

I’ve been lying in bed, tossing and turning for five and a half hours and it’s now passed the stage where going to sleep would be wise (because if I go to sleep now the alarm clock’s not been invented that could rouse me for work).

That’s the problem when I’m poorly. My body clock goes absolutely haywire. I slept, for example, for most of Wednesday. In fact, when I went in to work briefly on Tuesday (before being banished for risking infecting people), I’d actually nodded off on the Park and Ride bus into the city.

Hope I didn’t snore too loudly.

Where was I? Hmm … body’s wide awake but the ol’ noggin’s missing a few cylinders.

Talking of which, who knows how to get the bloody bonnet open on a Sirion? I just can’t find the catch and my screen wash is dribblingly low. I’ll just have to try again in the morning, I suppose. Not now, though, because although it’s morning it’s still pitch black outside so it’s officially night.

Even the tasteless Christmas lights opposite must be off (she’s not taken them down – supposedly bad luck but as she’s crazier than I am, I doubt she’ll notice).

I’ve just been wondering whether there’s a power cut before remembering that I’m using a computer and the mains light is on. Told you my brain wasn’t functioning.

It was Sunday, of course, when I was stricken with H5N1 or whatever it is. Stubby-day, as it was to be. Just my luck. Ah well. Never mind. Clearly not meant to be.

Anyway. There was a reason for my firing up the computer. There was something I wanted to tell you.

Nope.

It’s gone.

Bugger.

An interesting development

I omitted to mention my New Year’s Eve, didn’t I? An entertaining evening chez Tall Andy and Kitten. An evening of Wii gaming, alcohol (for others – I was driving) and company. For reasons I can’t go into here (just in case) I spent a fair amount of time on Tuesday morning thinking of puppies.

I’d left early as I’d arranged to meet some friends at the Bure Valley Railway for the 11 o’clock Mince Pie Special. A good start to the year and we resolved to make this an annual event. Shame the weather was rather pants.

I don’t recall doing anything much yesterday but today I popped over to Bedfordshire to look at a shop which specialised in wargames stuff (I’d seen their website and calculated that postage and packing for what I fancied wouldn’t be far short of the cost of fuel there and back). Managed to pick up some special paint which’ll make painting my miniatures quick and effective.

Now that you’ve dozed off, I’ll drop the bombshell in the form of a text message exchange.

14:20 Are you back at work now?

14:21 Yeah where r u

14:24 I’m on my Christmas hols, but there’s a big, Stubby-shaped hole in my life. I was hoping you were still off so we could do something tomorrow. Oh well. :-(

I waited, eagerly, for the reply.

Nothing.

Oh dear. I’d clearly gone too far (and my use of “big” wasn’t my wisest choice of word). Ah well.

But wait – six hours later my phone announced “Woo hoo! The mail’s here!” More »
