Testing the waters

April 18th, 2008 | 5 Comments | Posted in Mundane musings

I’m working from home today (albeit in the loosest possible definition of the word “working”) and thought I’d have a test run of what I’m proposing to be my early morning routine after the end of the month.

This entails a wander into the thriving and bustling centre of Aaalburgh where I shall purchase a newspaper and then head next door for a morning coffee before meandering back home.

I’m not convinced that the 1.94 mile round trip will burn off sufficient calories to cancel out those in the large Café Mocha so may have to choose a less flab-encouraging brew when I’m doing it for real.

Possibly.

Today’s return trip was via the Post Office to collect the Last Day T-Shirt. Struck by a sudden inspiration earlier this week I ordered it online (from work, of course) and shall be wearing it proudly on the 30th. I have, you see, inspired a rush of people applying for jobs in other departments within the Evil Overlords’ demesne - it’s up to half a dozen at the last count. The shirt, therefore, bears the words:

Will the last one to leave the department please switch off the lights?

and very nice it looks too.

I mentioned this to Tweedledumber yesterday and he suggested that I sign the shirt and hand it over to the next person due to leave. I pointed out that this would mean I’d have to finish the day topless. He promptly withdrew the suggestion.

It’s not a bad idea - if adapted so that the shirt’s washed and then somehow delivered back to my then-former colleagues - as it’s going to be a wear-it-once garment and I do like the idea of my establishing a subversive legacy of sorts.
