Oh well. Based on the fuckwittery now prevalent within Abbey I guess that’s another financial institution to avoid like the plague then.
If you’ve got any ties with A&L I can only strongly recommend you get your money out now, while you still can. Fuck knows it’s been a nightmare dealing with Abbey in the past eighteen months and the staff (being loyal company types) blamed Santander for having messed up their systems since the takeover.

Hmmm. Interesting. I’ve got a “spare” current account with next to nothing in it with A&L. I’m curious to see what happens! You never know. They might fcuk up and accidentally deposit ten grand in it?

Unless the Abbey were always “run by idiots - for idiots”…
I remember Abbey as a Building Society/Savings Bank, so maybe they never quite made it to being a _real bank_ (in terms of competence) and it isn’t the fault of Santander at all.
I’d steer clear of A&L in the short-term nevertheless.
PS. In case it’s not clear:- Do not give any of your money to Abbey
