There’s probably more BBC commentators than amateurs at this Olympics Lionel.

A fair number of athletes are professional too as the old ‘amateur but has a sponsored trust fund’, ‘gifted soldier in the USSR army’ etc. was getting more difficult to pass off as truly amateur. But I’m not too bothered about this.
There is a lack of consistency though, e.g. boxing not allowing the professionals, and I would personally remove sports for which the “greatest prize” is not an Olympic gold - i.e. tennis and football.
More candidates for exclusion, anybody?

Yes but apart from the tennis, the football and the athletics, what have the Romans ever done for us?
