I’m concerned about the possible similarities between the election of Barack Obama to the US Presidency and the reaction to the election of a certain A C L Blair’s New Labour back in 1997. I seem to recall a similar feeling of elation and a belief that things could only get better … and look what happened.

That said, kudos to photographer Nida Vidutis for a series of images above which - if there’s any justice - will become as well known as the Dewey Defeats Truman photographs from 1948 - albeit for a different reason.

They say things come in threes.
in our household we noted:
First F1 World Championship by man of mixed heritage,
First election to US President by man of mixed heritage, and
First time experience of sheep landing on foot and breaking the toe of man of mixed heritage.
Oh to be one of the other two……

Just wanted to say that I copied the photos to my computer so that I can post them on my blog tomorrow. I will give the photographer credit, not only for the photos, but for once again this week, moving me to sobs of tears. Thank you?
I’m so Proud of my country. Lisa

The Bishop’s comment reminded me of a droll Doonesbury cartoon mentioned in Simon Hoggart’s piece on Saturday.
I hope the Bishop’s toe makes a full and swift recovery and trust that it wasn’t the result of a mistimed volley.
