An update

Sorry for the lack of posts.

Just to say that last night, Brother Wuglums had the “your father’s very ill” call we’d been expecting from Stalag Pentwyn. We’d both visited at the weekend but all recognition seemed to have gone so we were aware of this. We did all we could and asked them to just keep him comfortable and let us know if anything changed. The difficulty was to try to decode the over-cautious language they were using. I appreciate that some relatives may require molly-coddling but it’s really not a help when you’re 2 or 5 hours away and they won’t give a straight answer! We can’t exactly pop in to ascertain the real position for ourselves, after all.

I had the same call from the day staff this morning (seemingly unaware of last night’s conversations – so much for documented paper trails!), adding little detail but, thankfully, not wrapping up the message in quite as many euphemisms.

Still no update yet, though, which a bit of a surprise. The waiting’s no fun, but well, you know.

As I typed that, the phone rang. I took a deep breath, picked it up … and it was Bro, expressing similar views about The Waiting.

I’ll just mention that Brother Wuglums got the call last night because I was out wining and dining a young lady. More on this later (much later). Perhaps.
