No, I’m not.

July 27th, 2006 Posted in Mundane musings

One of the things we did in our Away Day was to go through the results of a Myers-Briggs test we all did a while ago.

I came out as an “INTJ”

That’s rubbish, I thought (and expressed this view). I’ve been online this evening to prove my point.

HumanMetrics.com also have me as an INTJ (Mastermind Rational or Introverted iNtuitive Thinking Judging).

Sonja’s Linguistic Surrealscape has me pegged as an “ISFJ” (which is just plain silly).

No, no, no, no, no.

Bloginality claims I’m an “ISTP“.

Why can’t any of them they tell I’m an “INTP“?

Your gut feeling (”it’s rubbish”) seems to be correct.

Looking at the questions I wonder why everyone doesn’t end up as a “SING” — Self-Indulgent Navel-Gazer. This stuff is worse than astrology… the trick seems to be to provide just enough positive statements about the subject that they - or more importantly “anyone with a pulse” - can identify with.

If I worked in HR I’d think these tests were interesting… Fortunately, I am not one of the undead.

I wouldn’t worry about classification. All looks C.R.A.P. to me.

OK. Just to add to this body of knowledge I went to http://www.kisa.ca/personality/ (being the Sonja link above) and answered “I’m really in between” to every single question.

Far from suggesting that I mighty be “taking the piss”, it appears that …

    “Your personality type is ESTJ.
    Extraverted (E) 50% Introverted (I) 50%
    Sensing (S) 50% Intuitive (N) 50%
    Thinking (T) 50% Feeling (F) 50%
    Judging (J) 50% Perceiving (P) 50%”

I only suggest that other results of the Myers-Briggs test have equal validity.. but if they make you feel better about yourself, who am I to judge?

In my haste to rubbish these tests, I may not have seen the “Are you bitter and twisted?” questions.. in which case my answers (and conclusions) may be wrong. If so, please accept my apologies.

I’m an INTP, too. And so is Bob Newhart! We rule — more precisely we analyze, then rule.
